Nigerian Wheat Flour Tuwo

Semolina, Fufu, Amala, Tuwo Masara and Tuwo Shinkafa are popular bolus meals eaten with Nigerian soups
These bolus meals are available in form of powder/flour and quite easy to prepare once you have the flour ready.
From time to time, I substitute any of them with wheat flour or wheat meal whenever possible.
Here’s how to prepare Semolina, Fufu, Amala, Tuwo Masara and Tuwo Shinkafa using their powder/ flour  ..Enjoy!

How to make Semo&Amala substitute(using wheat flour)

Ingredients:
– 300g Wheat flour OR semolina flour OR fufu flour
– 500ml Hot water (more or less)

Preparation :

*Put some water to boil, until bubbling. Then scoop out a little of the hot water and set aside.

*Pour in some of the  flour and start stirring real hard.
*If the mixture is watery, add more flour and continue stirring until smooth and hard (or as you want the consistency

*After about 1 minute, gradually add a little of the hot water you had set aside, cover the pot and leave to boil for 1 minute to cook the flourcompletely and remove any raw taste.
Then mix thoroughly and your Wheat meal/Semo/Fufu or Amala is ready.

This process can also be used for making any other bolus or swallow meals made from flour ,such as pounded yam(from yam flour) Rice fufu, corn fufu, Oat meal and a lot more .

 Method 2

* Pour water in a pot, add 3/4 of the semo flour or fufu flour into the pot of water.

* Heat up the pot and start stirring the semo  or fufu, to prevent burning at the bottom.

* As the semo cooks, you’ll begin to perceive the aroma and notice  that the consistency might be a bit light, then gradually add the remaining flour and continue stirring until you get a thicker consistency.
Put off the heat, scoop out and serve with you soup of choice
